SIG Roofing Melrose’s Branch Director and his colleague and friend have taken to the sky, followed by a swift fall to the ground, all in aid of raising money for the British Heart Foundation and The Borders Dialysis Unit at Borders General Hospital.
To commemorate their 50th birthdays Kevin Purves and Jamie Glover decided to take part in a tandem skydive at the hair-raising height of 15,000 ft. So far they have raised over £400 for each charity and SIG Roofing will match the sponsorship, doubling the donation to nearly £2,000 in total.
Kevin commented: “The two charities we chose were really close to mine and Jamie’s heart and we had close family members who had benefitted from the work the unit carried out. The generosity of our friends, family, colleagues and even local customers of SIG Roofing in Melrose has been overwhelming.
“We hope the money raised can play a small part in helping to continue the incredible work that the British Heart Foundation and The Borders Dialysis Unit carries out. Now we’ve achieved this, the sky’s the limit.”
The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It’s only thanks to generous donations such as these that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures.
Meanwhile, The Borders Dialysis Unit at the BGH provides an enhanced kidney dialysis unit at the facility, with the capacity to cater for 54 patients at once and had the ability to allow people to be cared for nearer to home.
