The Great British Slate Off
Do you have the skill, precision and craftsmanship to stand out in the roofing industry? The Great British Slate Off is your chance to showcase your natural slating expertise and compete alongside some of the best in the trade.
This NFRC competition, hosted by SIG Roofing, invites roofers from across the UK to submit a short video demonstrating their slate roofing skills. The natural slate used in your project can be purchased from any supplier.
A panel of industry judges will review all entries and select three finalists to take part in the live Great British Slate Off final at InstallerSHOW 2026.
Finalists will receive three days of specialist ornamental slating training with NFRC, VIP access to InstallerSHOW, and the opportunity to demonstrate their craft on a national stage.
Whether you’re an experienced roofer or developing your skills within the trade, this is your chance to show the industry what you can do.
Entries open 18 March 2026 and close 1 May 2026.

The Prize
Three finalists will be selected to take part in the live Great British Slate Off final at InstallerSHOW 2026. Finalists will enjoy three days of specialist ornamental slating training delivered by NFRC, VIP access to InstallerSHOW 2026, and exclusive behind-the-scenes industry engagement opportunities. All slate will be supplied by SIG Roofing, with Gallegas by CUPA specified as the product used.
Most importantly, they will have the chance to compete live in the Great British Slate Off, showcasing their skills in front of the industry.
Please note: finalists must be available to attend InstallerSHOW from 23rd to 25th June 2026 to take part in the competition and all associated activities.
Judging and Selection
The Great British Slate Off is a true test of skill, with entries judged by a panel of industry experts appointed by NFRC. Our judges will be looking for exceptional technical ability, craftsmanship, quality of finish, and overall presentation.
From all entries received, three finalists will be selected to compete live at InstallerSHOW 2026, where they’ll showcase their talent in front of the wider industry. The decision of the judging panel is final.
Meet our expert judges and trainers: Matt Timby and Andy Rowland bring years of experience and a keen eye for excellence in slating. As well as judging the competition, they will also deliver the specialist ornamental slating training, supporting finalists in developing and refining their skills ahead of the live event.
