A good-hearted Wigan roofer achieved special recognition as a ‘Local Hero’ at this year’s National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) UK Roofing Awards.
Sean Davis, of Riverside Roofing, was named among three shortlisted finalists in this year’s Local Hero category; a special award, sponsored by SIG Roofing, which seeks to shine a spotlight on industry professionals who continually go the extra mile for customers.
Judges were particularly impressed with Sean’s strong sense of community spirit, which has seen him deliver projects free-of-charge for vulnerable or elderly homeowners who have been taken advantage of by cowboy builders. In one case, Sean dropped everything to work on a time-sensitive project for a homeowner who had been drastically over-charged by a bogus builder for a shoddy job. As the owner was heading off on holiday the next day, Sean worked against the clock to deliver the development both on time and to a high standard.
Speaking of his shortlisting, Sean commented: “It was a real honour to be named among the final three for this year’s Local Hero award. For me, helping those who are in need or have been taken advantage of is more important than making money – it’s the right thing to do.
“In an industry which relies so heavily on trust and positive word-of-mouth, achieving recognition from an organisation as respected as the NFRC is fantastic.”
