Lauren Wainhouse, Internal Sales Co-ordinator at our Industrial Roofing Centre, recently tackled the Manchester 10k run which took place on Sunday the 19th of May 2019 to raise awareness for Diabetes UK.
Known for its buzzing atmosphere, incredible supporters and the booming anthems that rock the city’s streets, the run is designed for all athletic abilities. The internationally renowned 10k was staged for the 16th time, with the day also including a half marathon in the heart of the city.
Lauren commented: “After completing the Manchester 10k last year, I wanted to take on the challenge of running again. Unfortunately, I didn’t beat my time by 28 seconds, but maybe I will try again next time!
“Diabetes UK is a charity which is incredibly close to me and my family. 35 years ago my dad passed away very suddenly from a heart attack after living with diabetes. I wanted to raise awareness of a fantastic charity that helps millions of people every year.”
After ongoing training for the past two years, Lauren dedicates her time to run twice a week to ensure she would be ready for the challenge. Lauren continued: “It was a truly memorable experience and something that I hold close to my heart. All the money raised goes directly to those in need and even a few pounds can make such a difference.”
Diabetes UK is the UK’s leading diabetes charity, tackling the ongoing diabetes crises. Diabetes is a serious and often hidden condition, so without access to crucial information and support people experience life-changing and potentially fatal complications.
