A team of cyclists, organised by SIG Roofing, took part in a gruelling two-day, 280-mile charity bike ride from Lewes in East Sussex to Paris last weekend to raise funds for two charities.
All monies raised are to be shared equally between the Band of Builders, which offers wellbeing, financial, and project support to those in the construction industry, and PASIC, a charity supporting families whose children have received a cancer diagnosis.
This is the second year that SIG Roofing has pulled a team together to cycle this route. Last year, the route took 3 days and was prompted by Alfie Coulson, the young son of a friend and industry colleague who was diagnosed with cancer in 2022. Alfie was diagnosed with leukaemia, and went through a difficult journey of treatment and subsequently severe side effects. But throughout his challenging journey, Alfie has maintained a positive attitude, bringing strength to his family and inspiring those around him. His family have been supported throughout by the amazing charity PASIC.
The 2025 cycling team included Nigel Sinon, Dan Anstey, Chris Shave, Alun James, Jake Morrison, Gary Smith, Stuart Davis, Dale Gowing, Liam Shave, Gareth Nicholson, Pedro Ramo (BMI), Dan Weit (Marley), and Dylan McConell (Permavent), and they were accompanied by driver and chef Dustin Ward. They are grateful for the support and sponsorship of several industry suppliers, including BMI, Permavent, and Marley, which helped fund the journey.
Final word from Dan Anstey, Managing Director of SIG UK Roofing Northern Division, who took part in the challenge:
“Over the course of two gruelling days, 13 chaps of all ages and abilities pushed themselves to the limit to complete this bike ride to Paris — all in support of two incredible charities. There were moments we all struggled. Every hill tested us. Every mile demanded more. But what mattered most is we never walked — we cycled every inch of the way. We dug deep, leaned on each other, and kept going. This wasn’t just about endurance. It was about unity, determination, and raising vital funds for causes close to our hearts. We’re proud to say we’ve done it — not just for ourselves, but for those who need support most.
🙏 Thank you to everyone who supported, donated, encouraged, and believed in us. Your generosity kept us going when our legs said no. We may have finished the ride, but there’s still time to donate and help make a difference. 💛”
